Scrabble is not often a high stakes game, but a resourceful Canadian woman managed to land an attractive property rental by outwitting competitors.

The Canadian National Post Online (edition of Monday, August 23, 1999)
featured a major story devoted to a woman who solved her housing problem thanks to ...Scrabble!

Although she may have scored psychological points by intimidating the opposition with her Scrabble dictionary, Shalini Roy won an apartment share with her word-building skills.

Two months of flat-hunting and grim bidding wars had not resulted in a decent and affordable place to live. Shalini made it down to the final four to split a large flat with three others. After trying to find some fair way to pluck out the person to move into a cheap and spacious bedroom, the trio of roommates landed on the idea of playing Scrabble to find a winner, since 'everyone knows how to play'.

Despite being dealt some "crappy letters", she quickly put a hundred points between herself and the competition, and when the game broke up, she was handed a rental agreement.
