Russians and Poles victorious in Vanderbilt
- The four man team captained by Andrew Gromov of Russia outscored
the George Rosenkranz team 55-20 in the second quarter of the Vanderbilt
to take a lead they would not relinquish. The final tally: Gromov
150, Rosenkranz 119.
Gromov played with Aleksander Petrunin and Polish champions
Cezary Balicki and Adam Zmudzinski. Their opponents were Rosenkranz,
Sam Lev, John Mohan and Polish champions Piotr Gawrys and Jacek
Pszczola.

its place at the Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City as an attraction
sport.

More than 100 schoolchildren - some
as young as 7 years old - will gather this Saturday (24 March) in
Loughborough, Leicestershire to compete in the annual 'Young
Bridge Challenge'. Up to 30 teams from all over the country
are expected to take part in the event which incorporates the prestigious
'Schools Cup', won last year by pupils at Loughborough Grammar School.
The one day event, this year being held at the school of the holders
of the Cup, attracts youngsters between the age of 7 and 18 years
who play a series of bridge hands in any one of three competitions
running during the day.

The Portland Pairs - The National Championship Pairs - takes place
this weekend at venues around England and Wales. The Event will be
scored across the Internet and results can be viewed as they come

England have won the Camrose Trophy.
In the final weekend of the 2000/2001 series England beat Wales by
63 VPs to 25. The Republic of Ireland, holders of the Camrose Trophy,
were due to play against Northern Ireland at the same venue, but the
match was postponed due to foot and mouth disease restrictions. Both
Unions are now trying to re-schedule the match.
England's victory ensured that they
regain the Camrose Trophy, with an impressive total of 232 VPs.
Scotland finish in second place with 195 VPs. The other three places
still depend on the result of the postponed match.

News has just come in that Andrew Robson
has been involved in an horrendous accident whilst on holiday in
the Lake District. It is understood he fell more than 100 feet whilst
out walking, sustaining dreadful life threatening injuries. He is
in intensive care and expected to be in hospital for at least a
month.

a full and speedy recovery go to Andrew and his family.
