By Mark Horton

Why Wait?
Overheard in the corridor at the Orbis World Bridge Championships, 'Why do people take an instant dislike to ....... when they meet him?' 'Well, it saves time!'

Omar No More
Following his misadventure a couple of nights ago, Omar Shariff is not going to play in the Orbis World Transnational Teams Championship. He will be flying back to paris shortly.

Royal Supporter
Queen Beatrix of The Netherlands sent a fax to the headquarters of the Dutch Bridge Federation requesting that she be kept informed of her country's progress in the final of the Orbis Venice Cup.

Bridge Billions
Rumours are circulating at the Orbis World Bridge Championships that Microsoft's Chief Executive Officer resigned that post to pursue his interest in bridge. We are looking forward to the day when every pack of cards contains its own browser!

Cards or Camera's
Not everyone knows that Great Britain's Sandra Landy turned down the possibility of a career in the movies in favour of bridge. She had a cameo role in 'Carlton Brown of the F.O.'

Dead end
Has it struck you that the perfect obituary about any bridge player should contain the words 'shuffled off this mortal coil'.

Pro-Blem
The English Bridge Union are hosting a Pro/Celebrity event at the White House Hotel in London on 13 February. They appear to have forgotten that it clashes with the Tollemache Final, and are now desperately trying to find some professionals!
