British Bridge League To Devolve from 31 December
1999
At a Special General Meeting of the BBL Council
held on 16 December 1999, the following resolution was passed:
1. That the British Bridge League devolves
into its individual constituent members on 31 December 1999.
2. That the organisation known as the British
Bridge League shall continue to trade until 31 January 2000.
3. That an audit of the British Bridge League
books to 31 January 2000 shall be prepared by the League's auditors and that the
final accounts of the League shall be submitted to the current Executive of the League
which shall have the authority to approve those accounts on behalf of all the Home Unions.
4. That the net profit of the January 2000
Simultaneous Pairs shall be transferred to "Bridge Great Britain".
5. That the net balance attributable to the 2000
Gold Cup as at 31 January 2000 shall be transferred to "Bridge Great
Britain" as soon as practicable.
6. That when the decision of the World
Bridge Federation as to the identity of the participating teams in the World
Teams Olympiad in Maastricht (August 2000) is known then: a. If England, Scotland
and Wales are recognised separately, then the balance of the monies in the above mentioned
accounts shall be distributed as follows: one third to the English Bridge Union, one third
to the Scottish Bridge Union and one third to the Welsh Bridge Union but b. If the World
Bridge Federation requires that Great Britain shall participate in the said competition
then the balance shall be transferred to "Bridge Great Britain" which shall be
responsible for the expenses of funding the British Open and Ladies Teams to participate
in the said Championships.
7. That the Laws Commission of the
British Bridge League shall remain in place for the sole purpose of dealing with any
appeals from the Premier League Final to be held on 3 & 4
March 2000. After dealing with any such appeals, it shall cease to exist. The
question of the authority empowered to deal with disciplinary matters where players are
participating as members of a Great Britain team not otherwise dealt with at the site of
the competition shall be the NCBO within Great Britain of the players concerned and, if of
different nationality, the NCBO of which they are both members, and failing this by the
NCBO designated by "Bridge Great Britain".
8. The current Executive Committee of the British
Bridge League shall remain in office for the purposes of:
a. Approving the accounts to 31 January 2000 on behalf of the Home
Unions.
b. Ensuring that all debts and other obligations are met and any credits
collected.
c. Ensuring that all legal formalities, including Corporation Tax, VAT
and any other actions involved in devolution are covered.
d. Closing the bank accounts as soon as is practicable then transferring
the residues to the bank account(s) of "Bridge Great Britain".
e. Undertaking any residual responsibilities not otherwise referred to above.
