MSO World Wide Charity Simultaneous Pairs
22 & 23 August 2000

14 March 2000

Simultaneous Pairs ? Dynamic Scoring across the field ?

So what is it all about then ?

Well, the World Wide Bridge Contest to be held on 22 & 23 August 2000 (with different hands so you can play in both) uses innovative technology to provide a truly quick result.

And it is very simple. The organisers will be sent the material to run a heat, which will include the travellers with the hands printed on, so that the boards can be made up; very simple booklets with the hands for participants to take home at the end of the evening, with a brief commentary and, most important of all, a CD containing a simple, free, scoring program. Using this program to score the club heat, the organiser can then either upload the results directly to the server using his or her own internet connection or, if an internet connection isn't available the results files can be saved to a floppy disk and posted to the NCBO for transmission to the server. It is that simple.

And what does this mean ?

It means that you, the players, get a really quick result. That the event is scored across the whole field - an enormous single field instead of just across your own club event.

When the results are sent to the server, it takes about 20 minutes for them to appear on the web site. Players will be able to see their local club score, exactly as it appeared out of the computer at home, and then see how they are doing world wide. Once all the results are in, we will also be putting up a full commentary on the hands written by Brian Senior, with suggestions on how they should be bid and additional statistics and, of course, the frequencies.

We believe you will find this a really exciting event. Clubs wishing to enter should contact their National Bridge Organisation as soon as possible (NBO contact details can be found at http://bridge.ecats.co.uk in the Address section). We will try and put a list of participating clubs onto the site but for additional information you can also contact Anna Gudge.
