New Computer Programming Contest at Msoworld.com offers a $500 Prize - and anyone can enter!

MSO Worldwide Ltd. today announced that it will be holding regular Computer Programming Tournaments through its web site at www.msoworld.com. Designed for any programmer that likes a good challenge, the contest is something that Mind Sports Olympiad founder, David Levy, has had in mind for quite some time.

"We've wanted to offer something like this at the Olympiad for a while now but it wasn't until the introduction of our new web site that the perfect vehicle for promoting it became available," says Levy, "We're very optimistic about the turn-out for the contest both on the web site and within the Mind Sports Olympiad itself."

Through the web site, MSO Worldwide intends to locate its programming "champions" and continue the competition during the Mind Sports Olympiad, an annual competition for board games, classic games, creative thinking, memory skills, puzzles and now computer programming. Each winner of the monthly programming challenge receives a cash prize of $500 and a chance to compete for more prizes during the Mind Sports Olympiad at the end of August. An estimated 15,000 people will attend the 10 day event this year.

Levy admits that the World Wide Web has made such a contest far more possible than it would have been in the past. "It's been hard to reach everyone we wanted to. A contest just isn't a contest without a wide spread of competitors. The web allows us to reach anywhere that mind sports are taking place."

Programs submitted will be judged based upon a scoring system which gives quantitative measures to programming time, program efficiency (speed of execution) and code compactness (elegant programming). The MSO Worldwide Computer Programming Challenge is also unique because it is designed for individuals to compete rather than teams. This and the fact that it's being offered initially through the MSO website only, makes it the only competition of its kind anywhere.

Those interested in competing are invited to visit the MSO website at http://www.msoworld.com/programming.html to see the contest rules. The first contest will take place in the second week of January.
