World Memory Ace to Tutor Manchester Pupils

Eight times World Memory Champion Dominic O'Brien, from West Sussex, will visit Ducie High School in Moss Side, Manchester, on July 16th, to tutor a group of pupils in memory techniques.

Dominic's past feats include the memorisation of 54 packs of playing cards in 12 hours (a single sighting), recalled in 3 hours, which he accomplished at Simpson's restaurant in London in May 2002. He was able to recall the location of the 2,808 cards with 8 errors only, which was well within the ½ percent error margin allowed by The Guiness Book of Records.

During his visit to Ducie High School Dominic will explain to the pupils some of the memory techniques he uses. Memory Skills are of ever increasing importance in schools, as the pupils are faced with an increasing number of tests and examinations.

Dominic will also give a demonstration of the memorisation of a single pack of playing cards. He can memorize the order of a whole pack in less than one minute and then recall the correct order, also in less than a minute.

This tuition and demonstration is being organised in collaboration with EIC Manchester (Excellence In Cities) as a warm-up for the Mind Sports Olympiad, which opens at UMIST on August 16th. Dominic is expected to compete in the Olympiad Memory Championship on August 23rd and 24th and is firm favourite to win the gold medal.
