World Memory Record Broken
|
|
The world record for memorising a poem was
broken today at the 5th Mind Sports Olympiad,
being held this week until August 28th at South
Bank University.
Contestants are required to memorise as much of a poem
as possible, including punctuation and capitalisation.
The previous record of 260 points was set in 1995 by
Patrick Colgan. The winning score yesterday was 263, by
Ben Pridmore of Boston, Lincs. Earlier in the Mind
Sports Olympiad Pridmore had taken the gold medal in
the World Intelligence Championship, set and marked
by Mensa.
The 5th Mind Sports Olympiad presents
over 100 mind-challenging events including: 15 World,
2 European, 1 Commonwealth, 6 British and 25 Olympiad
Championships. Plus tournaments for newcomers,
demonstration games and simultaneous displays.
Daily Reports on all events, daily bulletins and photos
from the 5th MSO can be viewed at
www.msoworld.com.
Television crews and photographers are kindly requested
to give advance notice so as not to disrupt play
unnecessarily and avoid multiple clashes for interviews.
